Establishment of the National Women's Commission
In 1990, the Government of India established the National Commission for women as a statutory body of the Government of India. It is intended to advise the Indian government on all policy relating to women's issues, thereby giving women a voice during the legislative process. They have launched several campaigns on various issues, including dowry, rape, religion, equal representation at the workplace etc. The first chairperson of the NCW was Jayanti Patnaik, while the current one is Rekha Sharma.
